“One ought, each day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture and, if possible, speak a few reasonable words.”

Speak a few reasonable words… chosen carefully with thoughtfulness and reflecting one’s own values is how I interpreted this. All the other items reflect seeing the beauty in life, but that last line requires so much more of a person. It has a responsibility to express a beauty in life. To go outward with a thought or idea, with understanding of its impact… reasonably. Whether it be to say a reasonable opinion of a fine picture, or drawing your boundaries and enforcing them reasonably, there is a responsibility in both. Don’t hurt the artist and don’t discourage those at the boundary.

Accept an apology and an invitation, and do so with reasonable words. Both can be life changing in their own ways and being reasonable in your words can create even more choices at an ever evolving set of opportunities. But speaking a few reasonable words, this is sound advice. And while I’m at it, I’ll take the opportunity to enjoy a few of the finer things as well…
